Wan 3.0

Wan 3.0 gives a railway museum a way to animate a black and white archive print of a steam engine, so smoke drifts from the chimney on the gallery screen.

About

Heritage railways and local museums hold boxes of glass-plate negatives showing engines, signal boxes and crowded platforms. Volunteers scan them, yet a still on a gallery monitor rarely holds a visitor for long. With Wan 3.0 a curator picks one scan, writes that steam should curl from the chimney and drift along the platform canopy, and receives a short monochrome clip that keeps rivets, livery numbers and the faces of the crew unchanged. Because the original grain is respected, the result sits comfortably beside the printed captions, and the education team can make a fresh clip for each temporary exhibition without hiring a studio.
